Zinc and Fish Oil for ADHD

ADHD Symptoms Reduced with Zinc and Fish Oil Supplements

Zinc and fish oil supplements have evidence of helping to treat the symptoms of ADHD, naturally. Decades of research has demonstrated some effectiveness in using alternative and complementary medicine to help treat symptoms of ADHD. Among these include switching to a natural diet, free from artificial colors, flavors, preservatives and processed foods such as white flour and refined sugar. Current research also supports the DHA Junioreffectiveness of adding zinc and fish oil supplements to help treat ADHD symptoms. While the best way to increase your intake of nutrients is to eat more foods rich in those nutrients-for zinc that would include seafood such as oysters and clams; beef and lamb; whet germ; spinach; pumpkin seeds; and nut such as cashews. For added fish oil, eating fish with high fat content such as salmon, tuna and mackerel are great recommendations. Dietary supplements may be helpful in ensuring a proper dosage of these nutrients are consumed, but please only take according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and consult your physician before adding them to your or your child’s regime as too much of these nutrients could make you sick.

These reduced symptoms include reductions in hyperactivity and impulse behaviors among those who took zinc supplements.

As for fish oil, there is also evidence supporting the use of fish oil supplements in helping to improve ADHD symptoms. Fish oil, which is high in omega-3 fatty acids has been shown to improve mental skills and had, and among children with ADHD, research has demonstrated a positive correlation between the kids who took Fish oil supplements and improved attentiveness, clarity of thought and augmented organizational skills and even improved, calmer behavior among these children.

While using zinc supplements and fish oil supplements or increasing the volume of foods rich in zinc and omega-3 fatty acids may not address all of the difficulties of ADHD, adding these elements to traditional treatment may prove to be an effective solution to help sustain reduced symptoms and increased quality of life.
